The City Apartment branding initiative for Village Green Companies involves extensive historic restoration and complex programs on buildings in Chicago’s Loop. MDA City Apartments, a 240,000 SF building, was converted into 190 luxury rental apartments to combine unique architectural elements with sophisticated and sustainable design finishes. A high tech lounge and study area extend out to the Sky Park on the 24th floor roof that takes full advantage of the amazing views of the City, Lake Michigan and Millennium Park. The contemporary design incorporates existing historic elements, allowing the high-rise residential project to qualify for Historic Tax Credit, with a restored brick and limestone façade, detailed plasterwork and preservation of many of the existing terrazzo and marble corridors throughout the building.
Not only is this residential project a successful example of historic preservation and adaptive re-use, but also for sustainability. HPA was instrumental in acquiring public funding, placing the property on the National Register and applying for LEED EB Certification.
