The client came to us wanting a modern design of a new housing facility for the students of Arizona State University, with ties to the contextual environment, colors, and materials, address climate issues, and sun angles. To accomplish this, the form is organized into two separate bars that intersect each other with a glass bridge connection with one oriented North/South to provide a street presence. Along this façade, a smaller volume is pulled away from the main bar to create terraced areas and mark the entry to the site. The East/West bar acts as a backdrop to the pool and amenity spaces at the main terrace level. Indigenous landscape including cacti, sandscapes, and small palm trees grace the perimeter of the terrace.
This student housing architecture project came in on time and under budget, with full occupancy in under four months of marketing to the students. It has set the new standard for modern housing at Tier-1 campuses.
